My Inputs in Times Of India about protection from rape charges…

Love needs an affidavit

The Supreme Court recently asked whether a failed consensual relationship between adults can lead to filing of rape charges against the man. The apex court expressed concern over the recent spurt in cases in which women in failed relationships had filed rape charges against their former lovers accusing them of inducing them into a sexual relationship on the promise of marriage. The growing number of such police complaints has also had a curious effect on the ground. Now, men have started asking their beloveds to sign an affidavit saying that they will not press rape charges against them if their relationship eventually fails.
“I have got at least two couples who have confessed that they have entered into an agreement that meant that they will not sue if their love fails. They say this is important because insecurity kills love,“ said psychiatrist Dr Hansal Bhachech. Last checked, such a document would not hold any water in court but it may bring much peace to the mind!
